For this juice I use my basic PH Balance Juice (“green juice”) and add dandelion greens to it. I can’t say enough about the virtues of these great greens. They are high in calcium and other essential minerals, loaded with antioxidants, are anti-inflammatory and best of all, are the ultimate detoxing green.
You’re probably saying, “Dandelions? Like those pesky weeds I spray my lawn for?” Yes, those. Though I wouldn’t eat the ones on your lawn, especially if they have been exposed to chemical pesticides. Bought in a health food store, these hearty, organic greens have a long history of use as an herbal remedy for anything from promoting gastrointestinal health to restoring proper immune function. They are also an extremely effective diuretic which helps to support the draining organs such as the liver, gallbladder and kidneys.
Drink your juice within 15 minutes of juicing to get the maximum benefits
- romaine lettuce - 1 bunch
- celery - 4 stalks
Celery is a great source of vitamins and minerals. Rich in flavanoids which help to protect from certain cancers. Naturally low in calories, celery has a high soluable fiber content which helps keep the digestive track moving. It helps to boost the immune system and your metabolism all while helping the body to maintain a proper PH.
- parsley - 1 handful
- dandelion greens - 1 handful; 10 small leaves or 5 larger ones
These hearty greens have a long history of use as an herbal remedy for anything from promoting gastrointestinal health to restoring proper immune function. They are also an extremely effective diuretic which helps to support the draining organs such as the liver, gallbladder and kidneys.
- apple - 1/2 (optional)
“An apple a day” is an adage for a reason. Apples are full of fiber, vitamins, minerals and many beneficial phytochemicals. Apples are also a good source of the soluble fiber pectin, which can help detox metals and food additives from your body.
Wash your greens thoroughly.
Put them through the juicer.
If you find the juice too bitter, then add 1/2 an apple. That will take the edge off.
If you listen very carefully, you will hear your liver say, "Thank you."
My husband is a huge wimp when it comes to green juices. He will have some, but only a dixie cup full and only if it is at least 1/4 apple juice. This is what I I drink every morning, compared to what he drinks…
Although I tease him about it, I applaud his willingness to take his shot every day. No matter how little you can handle, or how much apple juice you have to put in it, just having a mind open enough to try is going to do you a world of good.
